Episode 89: How Childhood Money Stories Block Abundance – Solo Episode
Rewrite Your Money Story: How Childhood Beliefs Shape Your Coaching Business
In this episode of The Business Bravery Podcast, I explore a topic that many coaches and service providers don’t realize is shaping their income and abundance: the money stories we form as children.
Your very first memory of money may still be influencing how you set prices, send invoices, and even the way you feel when a client pays you. That’s why understanding and rewriting your money story can be such a powerful shift in your coaching business.
How Childhood Beliefs Turn Into Money Blocks
For me, my first memory of money came at age seven when I was given $2 every two weeks for chores. Instead of feeling excited, I felt nervous and pressured to “do it right.” That early experience linked money with stress and responsibility, a story I carried into adulthood.
In business, this showed up as:
Delaying invoices
Undercharging for my services
Overworking to prove my value
If you’ve ever found yourself hesitating to raise your rates, struggling with boundaries, or feeling anxious about money tasks, chances are you’re carrying a similar hidden money story. This is where money mindset work becomes essential for coaches.
Shifting From Scarcity to Abundance
The good news is: your money story isn’t fixed. You can rewrite it.
I’ve been practicing visualization techniques where I imagine my younger self receiving money simply for being me — not for solving big problems or working harder. This simple practice has helped me shift from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset, and the results have been tangible. Recently, I celebrated a $4K week in my business, and it felt calm and expansive instead of pressured.
This is what I want for every coach, to experience money as supportive, not stressful.
A Simple Practice for Coaches
Here’s a short practice you can try right now to start rewriting your own money story:
Recall your first memory of money.
Identify the emotion you felt in that moment.
Ask: “What belief did I form here?”
Rewrite the story with a new belief - one that feels calm, joyful, or abundant.
Anchor it with an affirmation: Money can come to me with ease. I deserve to be paid well for the value I bring.
Journaling on this is a powerful way to rewire your money mindset and step into a healthier relationship with abundance in your coaching business.
Why This Matters for Coaches
As a business coach for online business owners, I’ve seen time and time again that strategy alone isn’t enough. If your money beliefs are rooted in stress, fear, or overwork, no marketing plan or funnel will fix that.
But when you shift your mindset, you unlock the ability to confidently price your services, sign more aligned clients, and grow your income without the constant hustle. That’s the power of a re-written money story.
